Allows you to measure the parameters of the secondary voltage, determine the ignition ability of the spark and identify problems associated with candles, caps, coils. When using the Lx1 sensor as a timing sensor, it is used in conjunction with the Lx4 or Lx6 kits. This sensor helps to unambiguously mark the parade of cylinders

As a cord, a soft microphone cable with a dense shielding braid is used. The connector for connecting the sensor to the oscilloscope is BNC.
The sensor housing is made of polyurethane and reliably protects the sensitive element of the sensor from possible mechanical damage.

During development, special attention was paid to the junction of the signal cable with the sensor, as the most susceptible to damage. Inside the connection, a printed circuit board is used, on which the electronic components of the sensor are located, and the board itself carries the power load, and also securely fastens the cable. This monolithic connection prevents the cable from breaking due to accidental jerking, and also significantly extends its service life.

The sensor was developed for use in conjunction with the MT Pro motor tester, but can also be used with any other oscilloscope, connects to any analog channel or synchronization channel (in case it is used as a synchronization sensor).

Diagnostic technique
The sensitive element of the sensor Lx1 is an inductor. To capture the secondary voltage signal, the measuring head of the sensor must be installed on the surface of the ignition coil, in its electromagnetic field. As a rule, the top of the ignition coil is a plane on which the measuring head must be located. Fixation on the coil body is conveniently performed using double-sided foam tape. Before mounting, be sure to clean the surface of the coil and sensor from dirt and dust.

 

The principle of operation of the sensor Lx1

The ignition coil of an internal combustion engine works on the principle of a step-up transformer and has two windings and a common core. Therefore, a change in the current strength in the primary winding leads to the appearance of an EMF and a change in the current in the secondary winding, and vice versa. If an additional inductor is placed in the electromagnetic field of the ignition coil, then an EMF will also occur in it, in proportion to changes in the magnetic field in the coil. Thus, an oscillogram of the secondary voltage can be obtained.

The shape of the secondary voltage signal depends on the location of the sensor relative to the field of the coil.

Therefore, when placing the measuring head, the following guidelines should be followed. The axis of symmetry of the sensor must be located along the axis of the ignition coil core. The distance between the coil and the head should be as small as possible. If it is not possible to visually determine the type of ignition coil, then the optimal placement of the sensor can be determined practically by changing its position relative to the ignition coil until a signal with the highest amplitude is obtained on the oscilloscope.

The exact location of the Lx1 synchronization sensor is not so critical, since its task is only to detect the breakdown pulse.
